Celebrity Children: Blanket Jackson Changes Name, Is Apple Next? [Video]
Blanket Jackson, the third child of the late Michael Jackson, officially changed his name to Bigi Jackson before entering the elite Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California. Blanket, who’s now 13, said he was being bullied for his unusual name.
News Max reports that all of Michael Jackson’s children have names that reflect the King of Pop’s own first name. His daughter is officially named Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, while his older son is called Michael “Prince” Joseph Jackson, Jr. Bigi, his youngest child, was given the name Prince Michael “Blanket” Jackson II.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Blanket has been unhappy with his given name for some time, and changed it once he entered a new school. Bigi, Blanket Jackson’s new name, is reportedly a female name of German origin, according to the Examiner.
“(He) changed his name informally from Blanket to Bigi before entering Buckley because he hated getting bullied and made fun of because his name was Blanket,” an insider told celebrity gossip rag, Radar. Blanket Jackson “always thought the name Blanket sounded so stupid and resented his father for calling him that. Growing up, his school mates have always been slightly mean to him because of their jealousy over who he is, and going by Blanket made him a much easier target for ridicule. When he entered Buckley he told them that his name is Bigi and that is what they call him.”
Jackson isn’t the first celebrity child with a strange name, and earlier this year Gwyneth Paltrow defended her choice to name her daughter Apple. Paltrow’s fans have wondered whether the child will change her name as well, but according to Gwyneth, Apple, unlike Blanket,“loves” her unusual name and won’t soon be making changes to it. Paltrow, however, didn’t come up with Apple’s moniker.
“Chris [Martin] named her,” reports TV Guide.

When asked about her relationship with her ex, Paltrow said it was all about the kids.
“We actually have a really strong friendship and we laugh and we have fun. But there are times when it’s really difficult and things happen and you’re like, ‘I’m sure he doesn’t want to hang out with me and I don’t want to hang out with him.’ But for the sake of the kids you do it. But you also don’t do it all tense.”
Although Apple Paltrow and Blanket Jackson aren’t the first celebrity children to be given a strange name, it seems some are comfortable with their monikers while others eventually make changes to their name.
