‘True Detective’: Vaughn, Farrell, McAdams, And Kitsch Headline Dark, Intense Season 2
Season 2 of True Detective with Vaughn and Farrell hits HBO this weekend, and fans can’t wait to get started. Season 1, starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, was a big hit, but the Season 2 cast featuring Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell looks fantastic as well, and everybody is anxious to see what lies ahead. What True Detective spoilers and teasers are available so far?
Not only does Season 2 of True Detective star Vaughn and Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch are in the mix as well. Of course, folks know Rachel McAdams from movies such as Aloha, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Wedding Crashers, The Notebook, and Mean Girls. Taylor Kitsch is probably most recognized for his connection to Friday Night Lights, though he’s done a lot of other projects since then, as well.
Fox News lays out the scoop on Season 2. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a mobster, while Colin Farrell plays Detective Ray Velcoro. McAdams tackles the role of Ani Bezzerides, a sheriff’s detective, while Kitsch is Paul Woodrugh, a motorcycle cop and troubled war veteran. They all come together over a case involving a murdered city official.
While the name of the show is the same, there are some shifts in this second run. Season 2 definitely utilizes its ensemble cast to the fullest from the sounds of things, and this second season apparently takes place entirely in the present. The setting this time around is Los Angeles, but there are still dark and unusual touches that will let fans know they’re still watching True Detective.
The New York Daily News reiterates the dark nature of Season 2 and teases that True Detective’s Vaughn plays a “high-stakes financial hustler who thinks he’s scoring a multimillion-dollar scam.” He’s got a problematic and corrupt partner whose actions spell trouble on both a business and personal front for Semyon.
Velcoro is a big drinker who is carrying loads of baggage and he is said to be haunted by mistakes from his past. Velcoro and Semyon connect in what are teased to be mysterious ways, and it seems that McAdams’ Bezzerides is a major departure from some of the actress’ prior roles. As for Kitsch, True Detective spoilers tease that fans have not seen him play this kind of character before, and everybody welcomes the opportunity to see him stretch into a new type of role.
Will Season 2 live up to the hype? Will True Detective’s Vaughn and Farrell satisfy viewers with this new story in the wake of McConaughey and Harrelson’s debut with the series season? Fans will find out when the new season premieres on HBO on Sunday, June 21.
