Women’s soccer fans will want to watch live online as Brazil takes on upset-minded Costa Rica in a FIFA 2015 Women’s World Cup match Wednesday in New Brunswick , Canada — a match almost certain to determine whether the Central Americans move on to the knockout phase of the tournament, or go home.
Brazil, in search of their first Women’s World Cup, has already clinched first place in Group E and will face either Sweden or Australia in a Round of 16 of elimination match on Sunday, even if they lose to Costa Rica.
But if the Costa Ricans — who stunned both Spain and South Korea by clawing their way to well-earned draws in both contests — can force another draw with Brazil or somehow manage to pull out a victory, the team that was considered the weak sister of an otherwise strong group might find itself in the Round of 16 as well, just four wins away from a World Cup championship.
To find out how to watch the Brazil vs. Costa Rica FIFA Women’s World Cup match live online, see information at the bottom of this article. Kickoff is scehduled for 8 p.m. at Moncton Stadium in Moncton, New Brunswick. That would be 7 p.m. Eastern Time, 4 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday, June 17.
Costa Rica likely would not even have qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup under the previous 16-team format. But with the field of entrants expanded to 24 nations for the 2015 competition, Costa Rica has proven that even teams considered “minnows” can make an impact on the tournament.
Even a loss to Brazil could still send Costa Rica through to the Round of 16. But if they lose, they cannot lose by more than one goal and Spain must draw with South Korea in their match, scheduled to be played in Ottawa simultaneously with the Brazil vs. Costa Rica showdown.
Led by Captain Shirley Cruz, Costa Rica will hope that Brazil, guaranteed of topping the group, will be giving a somewhat reduced effort that could allow the underdogs to sneak away with a surprise victory.
