Nintendo E3 Roundup: New ‘Metroid’, ‘Star Fox’ And ‘Animal Crossing’
It’s that time of year again. E3: the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The part of the year all gamers wait for. PlayStation and Xbox have revealed some exciting news at this year’s E3, but Nintendo had a few surprises of its own.
The Nintendo highlight of this year’s E3 was the new Star Fox game, Star Fox Zero. According to Ars Technica, the next installment in Nintendo’s Star Fox franchise is headed to the Wii U. And after decades of remakes of old Star Fox games, fans will be excited to learn that Star Fox Zero is a completely original game.
Some footage of the new Star Fox game was shown by Nintendo at E3, exhibiting some stunning Wii U graphics and awesome cinematics. The game is slated for release this holiday season.
Other fans of sci-fi Nintendo games will be thrilled to hear that a new Metroid game is on the way, as well. Nintendo announced Metroid Prime: Federation Force at this year’s E3. According to the Verge, Nintendo will be releasing this game exclusively on the 3DS sometime in 2016.
The game will feature four-player co-op missions and three-on-three “sci-fi sports battles,” one of which, Blast Ball, was already revealed at the Nintendo World Championship. But die-hard Metroid fans will be heartbroken to learn that Metroid Prime: Federation Force does not appear to feature the star of the Nintendo franchise, Samus Aran. Players seemingly control members of the federation, rather than the intergalactic bounty hunter everyone loves.
Another extremely popular Nintendo franchise is also getting new games. The company revealed at E3 that two Animal Crossing spinoff titles are set for release by Nintendo in the near future. Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer will come to the Nintendo 3DS, allowing players to customize and decorate the homes and yards of villagers. Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival was also announced at E3, which seems to be a Mario Party-style board game. Both games will prominently feature Nintendo’s Amiibo figures and NFC cards. Both games will be out before the end of the year.
Nintendo also announced The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes for the 3DS, coming out this fall. Other anticipated Nintendo Wii U games include Super Mario Maker, coming out on September 11, and Yoshi’s Woolly World, which releases on October 16.
What do you think was the biggest announcement from Nintendo at this year’s E3? Which Nintendo game are you most excited for?
