‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Kit Harington On His Character’s Fate, Plus Fan Conspiracies About Jon Snow [Spoilers]
[Ed. note: In case you haven’t seen Season 5, Episode 10 of Game of Thrones, this post contains spoilers for that episode.]
The Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones featured the surprising end for one of the show’s more popular characters. In the last episode of this season, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was betrayed by his own men at the wall, which led to his untimely death. While some fans are still holding on to the idea that Snow isn’t gone, Harington recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly and talked about whether or not Snow is really dead.
“Like every season, you read something in the script and go, ‘Oh f**k.’ I kind of knew it was coming,” Harington revealed. He went on to say that he thought the show did a great job at wrapping up all the loose ends involved with his character’s storyline. “I didn’t realize it would be the final shot of the season and that made it extra special. It’s always kind of nice really when you’re the last thing that happens in that episode. I dunno, I loved it. I loved how they brought Olly in to be the person who kills me. I love how the storyline with Thorne was wrapped up. I think it was really well crafted by [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. It felt like the right way for it to happen.”
Harington also addressed the idea that Snow isn’t dead, and admitted that he would not be coming back next season.
“This is my understanding of it. I had a sit-down with Dan and David, we did the Tony Soprano walk. And they said, ‘Look, you’re gone, it’s done.’ Quite honestly, I have never been told the future of things in this show, but this is the one time I have. They sat me down and said, ‘This is how it is.’ If anything in the future is not like that, then I don’t know about it – it’s only in David and Dan and George’s heads. But I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.”
What’s next for the show now that Snow is out of the picture? “You build up people’s expectations so high, how do you finish it? I don’t know how they’re going to finish Thrones, but I think I’ve gone out on a great season,” Harington explained. “I think they’ll have to end it with most epic f**k-all battle TV has ever seen.”
Now, there are many theories that Kit is just saying what he has been told to say and that his character may not be dead, or he may come back as another character on Game of Thrones.
Time magazine suggests that Jon could have actually have transferred his soul into the body of his direwolf, Ghost. Melisandre also appeared at the Wall out of no where, so fans are also speculating that she may be able to bring Jon back from the dead.
One thing fans know for sure, they will not find out what really happens to Jon Snow for 10 long months. Find out if Kit Harington is a part of Game of Thrones Season 6 in the spring of 2016.
