Kristen Wiig: Everyone Leaves SNL Eventually

It looks like Kristen Wiig is getting ready to move on to bigger and better things. It was rumored last week that the “Bridesmaids” star would be saying goodbye to “Saturday Night Live,” and today on Alec Baldwin’s podcast she said that her exit from SNL is inevitable.

Wiig said:

“Everyone has to leave… I will say that when I do leave it’s not because I’m sick of it and not because I see something better or anything like that. It’s just that it’s time. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing. … This is my seventh year and that’s my family. It’s my heart. It’s New York to me. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing… you’re there for a week and on Saturday night you’re sad because you leave these people.”

Wiig didn’t say that she was leaving the show for certain next year but she did confirm that her contract was up at the end of this season. Rumors are also circulating that Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis will be leaving the show next year.

An SNL spokesperson said that decisions about the 2013 SNL cast will be made at the end of the 2012 season. The spokesman said:

“No decisions have been made and won’t be until the end of the summer.”

Wiig was nominated for an Oscar last year for “Bridesmaids” and has found plenty of work outside of SNL. She recently starred in “Friends With Kids” and has several projects lined up, including a movie called “The Comedian” with Robert DeNiro, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” with Ben Stiller, “Revenge of Jolly!” with Elijah Wood.
