WWE News: The Reason Behind Sheamus Winning The ‘Money In The Bank’ Briefcase
In a shocker last night at WWE Money in the Bank, the Celtic Warrior Sheamus came away with the Money in the Bank briefcase.
It was something very few saw coming and even fewer liked. The seemingly obvious winner going in was Roman Reigns. WWE had set up Reigns big time for the event and even made him earn his right to stay in the match by competing in multiple matches on one show just recently.
It was all but confirmed that Reigns was walking out with the case, whether people liked it or not. Many felt he didn’t need the case, but there was a lot they could do with him as champion soon. So it made all the sense in the world for him to walk out with it. When something is all but confirmed however, that means there is a little bit of hope that it won’t go the way it was set. Instead of Reigns, Sheamus won the briefcase. This means he can now cash in for a World Title opportunity any time he wants for up to a year.
So why did WWE pull this trigger? According to Cageside Seats, WWE is a big on Sheamus’ heel character and thinks it is “a big hit”. He was set to get a big push upon his return back to WWE from injury to begin with. WWE liking his recent work since his comeback simply made it easier for them to pull the MITB trigger.
There were original plans for Sheamus to win the Intercontinental Championship at Elimination Chamber. They even set it up for him to do it quite easily, but he didn’t walk away with the title. It was then that analysts wondered if WWE had other plans for him. Apparently they did.
It helps that Sheamus will be known relatively well in 2016. He is a villain in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 movie set to come out next year. Since he can cash in his case at any time, this very well could be done around the time the movie hits theaters. The haircut Sheamus has been sporting was mainly done for his role in the film.
At the end of the day, WWE has always been high on Sheamus and has been trying to push him down the throats of WWE fans for years. Much of the time, he has done well with the opportunities given. However, he is getting older and there are less chances to use him than younger talent. It makes all the sense in the world to use him in a big way while they have him.
