CW, ‘The Flash’: Barry Allen To Have Love Interest In Season 2
While CW’s The Flash ended just less than a month ago, production of Season 2 of the popular break out series is already underway, and thanks to a casting notice sent out by the CW network, we now know that the search is on for a leading lady to enter the world of The Flash.
Jessica Rawden of Cinema Blend reports that after a season that saw romantic interest for Barry Allen in the form of a brief flirtation with Arrow’s Felicity and a season long pining for Iris, CW is on the search for a character who for now is being referred to as “Wendy,” who is described as being “funky, fun, and funny,” and is also supposed to be a science whiz. The news sent the fanboy universe into a frenzy with fans of the CW series and the DC comic universe alike pondering whether this would be a character that already exists within either The Flash or DC mythology or would be a new character imagined and introduced by the television show’s writing team. Wendy, which as of now may be a pseudonym intended as a decoy to keep would be super sleuths at bay, is set to be introduced in the second episode of the second season.
Meanwhile, Mike Cecchini at Den of Geek reports that CW is also looking for a new hero character to enter The Flash starting in Season 2. Casting reports state that the character’s name, also presumably a fake, is “John Clark,” described as “classically handsome,” “cynical,” and in his 30’s-40’s with an “edge.” The character, as Wendy, is expected to be a regular addition to the cast. Cecchini speculates that the hero in question could be one of several familiar DC characters, including Jay Garrick, Max Mercury, or even Green Lantern himself, Hal Jordan. Cecchini also speculates that the love interest in question, Wendy, could be Patty Sivot of Central City CSI, who became a regular character in the first issue of the new 52 relaunch of The Flash comic book series.
The Flash, which stars Glee star Grant Gustin, debuted on the CW network on October 7, 2014, at which time the pilot became the second-most watched pilot in the history of the network behind that of The Vampire Diaries. Positioned as a companion piece to the already established CW series Arrow, The Flash amassed popularity at an unexpected rate with the series gaining in viewership throughout the season, even winning the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite New TV Drama.” In January of this year, The Flash was renewed for a second season.
