Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife, Sophie Turner, have welcomed a baby boy, Us Weekly is reporting .
Benedict’s representative, Karon Maskill, confirmed the baby news.
“Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son. We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during these next few precious weeks.”
The new baby is the first child for the 38-year-old Cumberbatch, who in 2011, according to Now Magazine , said that he was eager to become a dad .
“I am very broody. I have been broody for the last five years because I have two godchildren.”
“Broody,” in case you didn’t know, means “ wanting to make babies ,” according to Urban Dictionary. And Benedict wants lots of them, according to a 2013 interview.
“I was happy as an only child, but I’ve always wanted to be part of a bigger family. I would love to have children.”
This will also be the first baby for Benedict’s wife, 37-year-old Sophie Turner. She and Cumberbatch met in 2009, on the set of Burleque Fairytales . It may not have been love at first sight, however. Since 2009, Cumberbatch has been linked to actress Olivia Poulet and artist Anna James. Sophie Hunter split with sculptor Conrad Shawcross in 2010.
In 2013, Cumberbatch described what he looks for in a woman.
“A woman who knows that she doesn’t have to get all decked out to look good is sexy. A woman who can make you feel smart with her conversation skills is also sexy. I believe the sense of humor is important. I also think someone who is good at working with others is sexy.”
In January, Benedict and Sophie announced that they were expecting a baby. The couple was unmarried at the time, but they quickly solved that problem by getting married on Valentine’s Day. Benedict and Sophie tied the knot at an ancient, 12th-century church in the British Isles.
Besides getting married in a centuries-old church and winning Oscar awards, Benedict Cumberbatch has managed to lead a rather interesting life. Earlier this year, the actor, who is a distant relative (second cousin, 16 times removed) of England’s King Richard III, read a poem at a symbolic of the monarch, whose bones had been found beneath a London parking lot. And in 2005, according to E! Online , he and his companions were kidnapped by militants in South Africa. Fortunately, he was later released, unharmed.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter have not yet announced the name of their new baby boy.
