Fans have a few months to wait for the return of Once Upon A Time to ABC, but the crew behind the scenes is busy planning the action for next season already. Some major announcements have been made in the past few days, and there is both good news and bad news for the town of Storybrooke.
According to TV Line , both Rebecca Mader and Sean Maguire have been elevated to regular cast member status for the next season of Once Upon A Time . Mader’s return as Zelena has fans excited. The Wicked Witch became a fan favorite.
It was not likely that fans would see more of Zelena at the end of Season 3, but the writers cooked up some magic of their own and decided to keep her around for more drama. With her now a regular feature of the cast, fans should be please.
However, there is the bad news. Michael Socha was elevated to regular cast member status at the start of Season 4, but he has now been downgraded. Not much has been done with Will Scarlett. He did develop a romantic connection with Belle, but that relationship was doomed from the start.
The character’s downgrading does not mean Will is out of the picture though. The spoiler from TV Line made it clear that Michael Socha is still a part of the series, but with a cast as large as that on Once Upon A Time , there is no way to know when fans will see him again. It is really a show that tells the story of the regular cast with many others that pop in as needed.
Fans should expect to see some new faces next season. With the mention of Merlin and others related to him at the end of season four, it is not surprising that a casting call has been put out for Merlin, Arthur, and Guinevere.
According to Christian Post , the casting call for Merlin is looking for a “a black man around 30 to 40 years old, with a natural British accent. [Merlin should be] a man with great wisdom and intelligence beyond his years, someone who has always put duty in front of his own desires, even at great personal cost.”
As for Guinevere, the series is looking for “a Latina between her 20s and 30s to play a “headstrong queen” who falls in love with another Knight Lancelot. The series is not looking for a Lancelot at this time.
Fans will need to wait until September to find out what the writers have in store for the people of Storybrooke during Once Upon A Time Season 5. With Emma sacrificing herself at the end of the Season 4 finale, there is some big drama ahead.
