Sex Is Free! And Other Lessons Kevin Bacon And Kyra Sedgwick Learned From Madoff’s Scheme
Sex is free. That’s what Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick learned after Bernie Madoff took an untold amount of their joint fortune.
He spoke about his and Kyra’s financial loss in a GQ interview. But he still didn’t disclose just how much they lost in the $50 billion scheme that sent Madoff to prison for the rest of his life, Fox News reported.
The true lesson in Kevin’s words speak more to the strength of his and Sedgwick’s marriage, which is going strong after 26 years.
Instead of turning on each other, Bacon said they put their chins up and moved on.
“I don’t think there was a moment where it was like, that thing happened and then we got pissed at each other. It was sort of the opposite. We kind of went, ‘Holy s?-?-?t. Let’s.?.?. I don’t know. Let’s have sex or something. It’s free!’
“I’m not going to say it didn’t have its emotional downsides. But we’re both young, and we both had the ability to work and roll up our sleeves and start putting the pieces back together. The truth is that we went through it together.”
And that’s what married couples do. Also telling is how Kyra and Kevin prioritized money in the grander scope of things. The actor said they “knew we were going to have each other and our kids were OK. They were through school, almost. We both felt like we would work.”
Bacon and Sedgwick have two adult children, Travis and Sosie. And they still work — Kevin just recently starred in The Following. Kyra spent seven critically-acclaimed years on The Closer and has a new series, Proof, on the way.
Besides, he noted that other people suffered much greater losses than they did. Among the celebrity victims are Larry King, ($1 million), Zsa Zsa Gabor ($10 million), Jeffrey Katzenberg ($20 million), and John Malkovich, who claimed he was completely ruined, the Daily Mail reported.
The actor said he was infuriated with himself after Madoff’s crimes came to light.
“Angry at him, but also angry with myself, for not doing enough research, for trusting people that I shouldn’t have. It’s kind of a wake-up call. You have to learn from your experiences, whether they be emotional, or financial.”
The criminal himself will spend the rest of his days in jail, and has lost his sons since they turned him in to the FBI when he confessed his Ponzi scheme. In 2009, he pleaded guilty to 11 federal felonies, including securities fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, making false statements, perjury, theft from an employee benefit plan, and making false filings with the SEC.
But Bacon and Sedgwick have already moved on from all that. Proving that when life gives you lemons, you hurry up and have sex.
