The search for the escaped convicts from a New York prison has expanded to Vermont, reports ABC News .?
David Sweat and Richard Matt have been the focus of a large manhunt since the news of their escape broke. As reported by the Inquisitr , the escaped convicts courted controversy because of the reportedly well-endowed qualities that have pegged one of the convicts as a ladies man. As such, a female prison worker reportedly confessed to helping the men escape, reports AOL News .
The 51-year-old prison worker’s name is Joyce Mitchell, and she was employed at the Clinton Correctional Facility for nearly a decade. Due to reports of Matt’s way with women, it is believed that Joyce fell for him and helped the duo escape. Mitchell worked in close proximity to Matt and Sweat in the tailor shop of the facility, where the convicts spent lots of time sewing their uniforms. The tools found in such a shop are likened to the ones likely used in the daring escape.
“When [Matt’s] cleaned up, he’s very handsome and, in all frankness, very well endowed. He gets girlfriends any place he goes.”
Not only has the manhunt for the escaped convicts expanded to Vermont, but residents of Willsboro, New York are also being warned to watch out for the dangerous men, reports the Wall Street Journal .? The publication reports that residents in the tiny town are already equipping themselves with protection from the escaped convicts. While some folks in Willsboro have armed themselves with weapons and secured their doors safely, others have begun their own search for the convicted murderers.
It is believed that the two escaped convicts could kill once more, reports the Toronto Star. The men were expected to use Mitchell as a getaway car driver, but instead, Joyce visited a hospital due to suffering from panic attacks and anxiety. From searches that transversed an Essex County Farm and beyond without turning up the escaped prisoners, the massive search moves on.
Meanwhile, New York State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico has vowed not to give up until the escaped convicts are back in prison.
“We won’t stop until we have these convicts captured.”
The search for the escaped convicts has caused authorities to deploy digital billboards, reports WWLP . Cops have placed more than 50 digital billboards across states like New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.
Canada is another potential destination for 48-year-old Matt and 34-year-old Sweat to flee towards in their escape.
The daring and Hollywood-like escape of the two convicts has brought on similarities likening it to movies such as Shawshank Redemption and Escape from Alcatraz .
