Kim Richards is facing jail time following her April arrest, as the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office formally charged the former RHOBH star on Wednesday with three misdemeanor counts.
Richards is set to appear Thursday, June 11, in Los Angeles County Superior Court for arraignment.
According to the L.A. District Attorney’s Office, Kim Richards is charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest, and battery on a peace officer. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of two years and six months in prison.
Richards, 50, was arrested in the early morning hours of April 16 after causing a disturbance at the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills. Officers who responded to the call from lounge staff maintain the reality TV star was acting belligerently, was slurring her speech and reeked of alcohol. As she was being escorted out, Richards asked to use the restroom and then refused to come out. As she was being booked at the Beverly Hills Police Department, police say the reality star tried to kick a police officer in the groin, but missed and kicked the officer in the leg, reports the Los Angeles Times .
Shortly after her arrest, Kim sat down for an interview with Dr. Phil, who offered the RHOBH star a fully paid trip to rehab. Richards refused at first, but entered a Malibu rehab facility just days later.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, after the drunken melee at the Polo Lounge, Kim Richards hoped entering rehab would help in her current criminal case. Before the reality star attended her daughter’s Mexican wedding last month, her attorney was in early discussions with the district attorney’s office on a plea deal; however, her relapse at the wedding reportedly took any sweetheart plea deals off the table. According to Radar Online , had Kim completed rehab without incident, the district attorney would have dropped the charges .
“Kim would have had to successfully complete rehab, and the charges would have been dismissed. The Beverly Hills Hotel didn’t want to proceed with charges if Kim was getting help. With Kim relapsing, the deal is now on hold, and the D.A. will most likely want a much longer rehab stint in exchange for the charges being dropped.”
E! News reports the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is still in rehab and doing much better at the new facility she entered after attending her daughter’s wedding.
The Beverly Hills Police Department is still investigating the case.
