A number of students and parents at a school in Hato del Rey, Dominican Republic, have needed medical care after performing the popular “Charlie Charlie Challenge,” in which the participants try to summon a Mexican demon named Charlie. However, for those in Hato del Rey, the game has taken an unsavory twist, with a number of people arriving at the Hato Mayor del Rey Hospital after playing the game. Doctors say they exhibit symptoms of mass hysteria as well as “inexplicable bruises on their bodies.” Now, doctors are warning the community about the real dangers of trying contacting the paranormal and diabolical while urging everyone to steer clear of the Charlie Charlie Challenge.
The Daily Mail reports that a number of parents and children have been treated in a local hospital in the Dominican Republic after playing the viral game, Charlie Charlie. The game involves participants attempting to summon a Mexican demon named Charlie by performing a special “ritual.” The ritual involves balancing two pencils on top of one another and placing it over a piece of paper with pre-written answers. The “demon” will then move the pencil to the appropriate answer. The game became a hit on Twitter, with people from all over the world posting videos of their attempts to summon the mischievous demon.
However, doctors in Hato Mayor del Rey in the Dominican Republic are telling their patients not to mess with the demonic being anymore, as they are seeing patients enter the hospital with “inexplicable bruises on their bodies” and are treating patients for “mass hysteria.” Doctor Kelven Guerrero notes that “the entire community” is disturbed by Charlie Charlie, and warns of the physical and mental dangers of playing with demons, as the demons control the situation.
“It’s a craze that has gone too far… It’s very dangerous for a young child to play with contacting the paranormal and diabolical. It can cause a great amount of trauma in a young person… The entire community has been very disturbed by it. It’s caused a lot of discomfort. One of the major problems has been that in order to start playing a child must ask permission of Charlie to play. But Charlie also has to give permission for the game to end. There have been many times when he has not done so and it has caused great trauma in the child. It’s dangerous for a child to stop playing ‘Charlie Charlie’ without his permission.”
A teacher at the local school notes that the game has caused the community to be terrified.
“The students and parents alike have been terrified. Many have appeared with inexplicable bruises on their bodies.”
Parents are now concerned about the possibility of demons and Satan possessing their children and destroying their community. Some parents claim their children can no longer sleep, as they claim the devil brushes on their faces when they sleep. Contrary to the warnings from the medical community and schools in Hato Mayor del Rey, scientists say that there is an explication for the “mysterious” pencil movements.
“Scientists put the supernatural phenomenon down to simple gravity and behaviour known as ‘response expectancy’, which means people will try to move the pencil through their movement or breathing without realising because they are so engrossed in the moment.”
