New York Giants Rumors: Eli Manning Addresses Contract Extension With Giants
New York Giants rumors have quarterback Eli Manning addressing a new contract with the team. More specifically, Manning talks about the lack of a new deal from the Giants, showing how the team has some unfinished business this NFL offseason. In a report from the New York Daily News on June 8, it is suggested that the two sides have not even met to open negotiations. That’s an interesting move for the Giants to make, with some fans reading the situation as a decision that the team might move on from Manning very soon.
The two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback shared his thoughts on a possible deal. Manning addressed whether negotiations had taken place yet and whether the Giants are forcing him to prove he deserves a huge extension with a successful 2015 NFL season.
“No discussions yet,” he said. “I don’t know if there will be or not. I think you’re always proving yourself in this league… It’s always kind of what have you done lately and you got to prove that you can still play at a high level.”
During the 2014 NFL season, Eli Manning passed for 4,410 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. It was his most yards since 2011 and his most touchdown passes since 2010. Manning also posted a quarterback rating of 92.1 and a completion percentage of 63.1 that was the best of his NFL career. The numbers seem to indicate he still has a lot to offer the Giants, but he is also now 34 years old
As previously reported on the Inquisitr, the New York Giants have a flashy player on the cover of Madden 2016 that could take some pressure of the star quarterback. Odell Beckham Jr. has become the new star of the Giants, showing during the 2014 NFL season that he could quickly become one of the best receivers in the game. Having Beckham on the field certainly takes some pressure off Manning and might just lead to a lot of success for the Giants in 2015.
Eli Manning is entering the final season of his six-year $97.5 million deal. His salary and bonuses work out to a payment of about $19.75 million from the Giants during the coming NFL season. From that point, Manning will become an unrestricted free agent, forcing the team to make a difficult decision. As no information has come from the front office of the New York Giants, analysts feel a deal will come at some point during the 2015 NFL season. Without negotiations having taken place, though, it will certainly lead to many additional rumors about what could take place.
