Kevin Bacon And Kyra Sedgwick Are Distant Relatives

We have all played Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon at some point in our lives and in some way we’re all connected to Mr. Bacon by six or less personal connections to our own lives. It turns out we aren’t the only one’s, Kevin’s own wife Kyra Segwick is Bacon’s own relative.

Now before anyone goes shouting “eww” to themselves the couple are very distant relatives of one another.

The realization of the couple’s genealogy was discovered by PBS show Finding Your Roots.

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have two children together, son Travis, 22 and daughter Sosie, 19.

Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., the show’s revealed this week that the couple “are indeed distant cousins. So talk about six degrees of separation, right?”

Speaking about the importance of his show Gates also revealed:

“I want … Americans [to] realize how united we are as a people. … There’s so much animosity … and one of the things that I want the series to do is to show that, deep down, we are all Americans. We’ve been sleeping together from the very beginning of the country.”

Playing six degrees of Kevin Bacon would be boring if you were married to the guy, at least this way they can play the game in a whole new way.

For anyone saying “eww” to this realization just keep in mind that the human gene pool is fairly limited, we all had to start somewhere and the chances that you are genetically tied to another person is pretty great, especially the further back we look in time.
