Who Is ‘Bachelorette’ Contestant Ian Thomson, And How Far Does He Make It With Kaitlyn Bristowe?
Who is Bachelorette contestant Ian Thomson, and how far does he make it with Kaitlyn Bristowe? The Princeton University grad came on the show to find love and made a great first impression right out of the limo.
According to his bio on ABC, Ian currently works as an Executive Recruiter for DHR International in Los Angeles, and graduated from Princeton University in 2009 with a BA in History, where he was a three-time All-Ivy League performer on the track team. The handsome San Francisco native has also done some modeling, but his profile was removed from Model Mayhem when the Bachelorette started filming.
Ian, 28, was “left for dead” after being hit by a car several years ago. He tells Runners World that doctors told him he would never run again, but after several surgeries and a month in a wheelchair, he was back on his feet.
“Running and my athletic training saved my life. I was told that had I not been an athlete, I would have died on impact when the car hit me. I am thankful for my athletic career and how it helped me to overcome this adversity.”
The 6’4? hunk became an instant fan favorite, but he doesn’t seem to have much of a connection with Kaitlyn as the season progresses. [Spoilers ahead]
I’m in love with Ian from #TheBachelorette… If I was the Bachelorette, there would be no competition. I’d choose him.

On Week 2, Ian joined Kaitlyn and six guys on the comedy show group date, but fans didn’t see much of him during the segment. He was given a rose at the rose ceremony, but was one of three guys who didn’t get a date on Week 3 — a clear indication that he wasn’t a frontrunner.
Week 4 takes the guys to New York City, and Ian is picked for a group date with Ben Higgins, Chris Strandburg, Joshua Albers, and Joe Bailey. They audition for a part in the Aladdin musical, but Ian loses out on the group date rose, with Chris winning not only a part in the musical, but one-on-one time with Kaitlyn as well.
Although Ian doesn’t win the group date rose, Kaitlyn gives him a rose at the Week 4 rose ceremony, and the group travels to San Antonio, Texas for Week 5 dates. According to Reality Steve‘s spoilers, Ian is once again picked for a group date, but by the time the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party rolls around, he decides to leave the show.
In ABC’s promo for Season 11 (below), Ian Thomson questions Kaitlyn’s intentions on the show and tells her that he thinks she’s there to “make out with a bunch of dudes on TV” and leaves the Bachelorette without finding love. Smart move.
Unfortunately, Ian’s fans won’t see him again until the Men Tell All special on July 20. He’s not on the cast list for the upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise, but there is no doubt that Ian won’t have any trouble finding love on his own.
