Aarthi Agarwal Dead At 31: Popular Bollywood Actress From New Jersey Dies From ‘Failed’ Liposuction Surgery
A popular Bollywood actress from New Jersey has died from “failed” liposuction surgery that was performed in the United States. Aarthi Agarwal died at age 31 in a hospital in Atlantic City after suffering cardiac arrest and respiratory problems following a liposuction surgery. The actress died the same day that her movie Ranam 2 was released.
The Daily Mail reports that Aarthi Agarwal began her career in Bollywood acting at the age of 16 and rose to fame in 2001 with her performance in Nuvvu Naaku Nachav. The actress was known for her roles in popular ‘”Tollywood” Telugu language films. However, she also starred in a number of Tamil and Hindi films. Though the actress was born in New Jersey, she made her career in the Indian film industry.
The actress was highly sought after in Bollywood / Tollywood films at her peak between 2001 and 2005. In 2005, the actress released five films. Though her career prospects were high, Agarwal struggled in her personal life. According to the Indian Express, the actress tried to commit suicide in 2005 after a relationship with a co-star ended and her career started to plummet. Despite the suicide attempt, Agarwal would continue on in the film industry on a smaller scale, but in 2007, the once-sought-after star didn’t receive a single job offer.
As a result, sources say that Agarwal became depressed with her now-failing career and suffered from a battle with obesity. The struggles with weight may have lead the young woman to seek liposuction surgery after she returned home to New Jersey.
“From 2008 to 2015 she worked in only four films and was almost forgotten. I think she had put on weight and had decided to undergo surgery.”
Aarthi’s father, Shashank Agarwal, was the one to release the news of his daughter’s passing. It was noted that members of the Tollywood community made several calls after hearing of the former star’s death. The father informed them that Aarthi had suffered a cardiac arrest due respiratory problems, but did not mention the liposuction surgery in the statement.
However, others say the respiratory problems stemmed from a “failed” liposuction surgery that took place approximately a month prior to the actress being admitted to the Atlanta City hospital for her respiratory problems.
The actress’ last film, Ranam 2, was released the same day as her death. The trailer for the movie can be seen below.
Her sister, Aditi, is also an actress in the Tollywood film industry.
