A Gilmore Girls musical? Well, not exactly.
While the television show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, confirmed she has a musical in the works, it will not be based on the fast-paced, witty show that stole the hearts of fans all over the world in the early 2000s.
“I’m writing the book to a musical right now,” Amy Sherman-Palladino told Danielle Nussbaum , a moderator, during her ATX panel at the ATX Television festival in Austin, Texas, on Saturday morning, according to the Huffington Post . “It just happened.”
Sherman-Palladino wouldn’t share many details of her current project, but did say that it would be something completely new, at least to American audiences.
“It’s based on a movie that nobody would’ve seen because it’s not an American and it’s nothing like it…” she said, before revealing too much. “I’m just going to say it’s original,” she added. “It’s original. F*** it.”

Amy then went on to explain the grueling, but rewarding, process you have to go through to create a musical.
“You have to understand something with musicals: Your great, great grandchildren will see the musical that I am writing now, because if you think movies take a long time to get produced, musicals take years, and years, and years, and years,” she explained , according to Broadway World .
While it can be hard work and a very long process, Amy Sherman-Palladino said that theater is her favorite art form.
“Boy, you can’t be in it for a buck, doing theater, because it’s just not about that,” Sherman-Palladino said. “It’s about really, really doing something beautiful and different and creative for the masses. It’s an amazing art form. It’s my favorite art form.”

The Gilmore Girls creator also dished that she is working on a television show for Amazon. Since Gilmore Girls and Bunheads , her most recent show that was cancelled after only a couple of seasons, ended, Amy has been wanting to get back into television.
“I’m working on a pilot for the delightful Amazon company,” she said. “That’s what I’m working on right now.”
