It turns out that the old adage that gentlemen prefer blonds has finally been debunked, disproved, and laid to rest for good. It just isn’t true. Well, among men in the U.K., anyhow.
This is not in reference to the 1953 film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes , starring Jane Russell and that overly-famous blond, Marilyn Monroe. This is about the whole fallacy that men actually do prefer blond women.
According to IAfrica , the gentlemen prefer blonds myth has finally been debunked and laid to rest.
The findings are the result of a recent survey run in the U.K. among 100 respondents, using the market research app OnePulse.
The poll showed that brunettes are equally popular with the male population. Reportedly, 31 percent of U.K. men find blonde women the more attractive type, with the same percentage relating to women with brown hair. Ten percent of U.K. men prefer those fiery redheads, and another 28 percent said that hair color didn’t feature in their preferences at all when choosing a partner.
Other physical attractions included in the poll revealed (no surprise here) that men find breasts the most important attribute, with a lady’s behind scoring a very close second place, at 40 percent of those polled.
When disproving the gentlemen prefer blonds myth, it turns out that a good sense of humor in a woman is important to 45 percent of the men polled, but other physical attributes did play a role. Twenty percent found a woman’s physique of importance, 10 percent looked at their teeth (like horses?), and nine percent were worried about the style shown by the woman.
While disproving the fallacy that gentlemen prefer blonds, it turns out women were polled too, with 33 percent stating that physical attraction is key when looking for a partner. Another eight percent of ladies, however, said that they didn’t need to be initially attracted to the guy, and another four percent saying physical attraction meant nothing to them when seeking a partner.
That said and done, apparently 52 percent of the ladies do like the more rugged men (hubba hubba), while another 33 percent preferred the cuter, prettier guys. However, when it comes to sense of humor, this is even more important to the ladies than it is to men, as 53 percent of the ladies polled said that humor was an essential personality trait in a man.
According to the Hindustan Times , the poll covered a wide range of people aged from 16 to 65 all over the U.K., and involved 400 men and 600 ladies.
To continue where they left off, tell us below which physical attributes you prefer when looking for a partner. Let’s try to establish whether gentlemen prefer blonds in countries other than the U.K.
Oh yes, and on the subject of the old movie starring Marilyn Monroe, it seems some people are still watching it and not particularly enjoying it.
Just finished watching ‘Gentlemen prefer Blonds’ for the first time. As a socialist feminist, I am truly and utterly traumatized.
