Residents in the Dallas-Forth Worth area are being urged to find shelter after at least two tornadoes have touched down in Texas. There have been no reports of death or injury yet but the tornadoes have caused tremendous damage and the National Weather Service has issued a tornado emergency.
According to The Boston Channel, the tornadoes have tossed several trucks around the highway and have caused “considerable damage.” Flights in and out of Dallas have been cancelled and passengers have been told to take cover.
A report from NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reporter said: “There’s lots of 18-wheelers… I’ve never seen this before.”
CNN’s Chad Myers said that two major storms are rolling into the Dallas-Fort Worth Area and the storms are getting stronger. Myers said:
“Both storms right now are getting bigger. They both have been rotating, and they both have significant possibilities of damage on the ground heading into DFW.”
The National Weather Service is urging people to find cover in a bathroom, closet, or hallway on the lowest floor of their building.
According to ABC , the tornado warning was issued for Dallas, Ellis, Johnson and Tarrant counties. The first funnel cloud was spotted in Ellis County a little after 1 p.m. According to Local Dallas, one tornado was estimated to be about 1.5 miles wide.
CBS 11 meteorologist Larry Mowry said: “This is as serious of a tornado we’ve seen in years.”
NBC 5 reporter Ken Kalthoff said: “There’s tremendous damage here.”
