For anyone who follows MMA historically, they will most likely be able to detail the beef that Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock have with each other. Unfortunately for MMA fans, a fight between the two iconic MMA fighters never made it to fruition. However, that is about to change at Bellator 138 when Slice faces off against Shamrock in a fight dubbed as “unfinished business.”
For Ken Shamrock, he plans to finish said business by taking out Kimbo Slice in the first round. Shamrock even said he’d be disappointed in himself if he couldn’t pull off his promise, as reported by the Inquisitr . Kimbo Slice, on the other hand, has made it clear that he is “going to knock Shamrock’s a** out.”
Said intentions were made known during Kimbo Slice’s interview with the Bleacher Report. They talked about Slice’s early career in UFC, his transition into boxing, and what he plans to do now. Evidently the chance to get his hands on Ken Shamrock was what made Kimbo Slice jump ship from his undefeated 7-0 boxing career (six wins being KO).
“That was definitely a no-brainer. S**t, I was on board from that right there.”
As mentioned before, Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock hate each other, more so the former hating the latter. And for those who are not in the know, the reason for all the bad blood originates back in 2008. From what is detailed by news.com.au , the story goes that both Shamrock and Slice were scheduled to fight at an EliteXC event in Florida. Hours before they would lock up, Shamrock allegedly suffered a cut while warming up, taking him out of the fight. Rumor has it that Shamrock had one of his cornermen or manager cut him intentionally because EliteXC wouldn’t grant him more money.
Nevertheless, a match needed to be set up in which Kimbo Slice would fight Seth Petruzelli instead. The thing about Petruzelli is that the MMA community knows he is a better mixed martial artist than Slice. This was proven true when Petruzelli knocked out Slice, 14 seconds into the first round. It was also the lynch pin that would eventually end EliteXC, an MMA promotion that solely depended on Kimbo Slice to survive.
Ever since then, Kimbo Slice has felt bitterness towards Ken Shamrock. Now he has the opportunity for revenge at Bellator 138. To sum up what this fight means to Slice, the final statement he made during his interview expresses his ruthless intentions.
“He doesn’t know what he’s talking about, man. He just needs fuel for his fire. I’m dying for him to try and do whatever stupid s**t he’s going to do, so I can knock his ass out. I’m going to put his s**t out and sit his ass down. That’s what I’m going to do.”
Bellator 138 will take place on June 19, 2015 in St. Louis Missouri in the Scottrade Center. For those who are unable to see the event live, the preliminary fights are available to watch on Spike’s official website while the main card can be viewed on Spike.
