‘The Bastard Executioner’ Season 1 Spoilers: Is Kurt Sutter’s Latest Project ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Meets ‘Game Of Thrones’?
Kurt Sutter’s newest TV series might be exactly what fans need following the end of Sons of Anarchy. According to MTV News, The Bastard Executioner is a mixture of Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones, which should satisfy fans of both shows.
TBX centers on the tale of a warrior knight under Kind Edward I who decides to end his days of fighting for a more peaceful life. However, violence greets him once again, and he is forced to return to his old ways as he becomes the executioner.
Focusing on a man who no longer wants to be part of a violent life but can’t escape it is very similar to both Jax Teller on SOA and Ned Stark on Game of Thrones. Sutter is very familiar with this storyline, and if his past work is any indication, then things aren’t going to end well for the warrior knight.
That being said, there are other similarities between Sutter’s new project and his former biker drama. Along with Lee Jones starring as the main role, The Bastard Executioner will also feature two SOA alums. Katey Sagal (Gemma Teller) is set to play Annora of the Alders while Sutter (Otto Delaney) will be playing the Dark Mute.
Meanwhile, the show, which just released a still image of Lee Jones as the warrior knight on ComingSoon.net, has been picked up by FX for a first season comprised of 10 episodes. In light of the series pickup, Sutter is thrilled to start something new.
“I love history,” Sutter stated. “I love theology. I love blood. It’s been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast – Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer, Lee Jones – this world explodes on screen.”
Sutter has been very active on social media, keeping fans up-to-date as TBX pilot was filming in Wales. Among the photos he shared was a picture of star Lee Jones as the main protagonist. In the picture, Jones is standing with a castle in the foreground. The image was captioned with “Living the nightmare. #theleejones #TBX #pilot.”
He also shared photos of his wife Katey Sagal in character as Annora of Alders, along with a shot of his daughter Sarah White, who will be playing Isabel.
No exact premiere date for The Bastard Executioner has been made at the moment, although the series should premiere this fall on FX.
