‘Empire’ Actress Gabourey Sidibe To Publish A Memoir
Empire and Precious star Gabourey Sidibe is adding another title to her resume — author!
The actress, who was nominated for several awards for her role in the film Precious, is penning her own memoir. According to People, they don’t know what her memoir will consist of, but they’re willing to bet that it’s going to be hysterical.
So why is it going to be funny? Well, the actress is often candid and has a very brash sense of humor, as exhibited on many late night talk show appearances.
Although we don’t have any specifics, the book will touch upon topics like becoming famous, dealing with depression, and being self-accepting of herself.
Sidibe announced the news of her memoir on Wednesday in a statement.
“It brings me much joy to add Published Writer to my resume of Actor and part-time Foot Model.”
Foot model? Did we miss something here? Probably not. Knowing Sidibe, she’s probably just joking around.
An additional statement was released by Senior Executive Editor Deanne Urmy via Entertainment Weekly.
“Moving from Bed-Stuy to Senegal to Cannes, as Gabby has done in a still-short lifetime, has helped produce a fierce, wise way of being in the world impossible not to admire. ‘Funny’ doesn’t begin to capture just how irreverent and complex Gabby’s stories are.”
As for self-acceptance, early on during her time in the business, Gabourey was criticized for her weight. That said, it doesn’t seem to bother her. In fact, she seems to have worked it and spits back at comments whenever she has the chance.
When Sidibe hit the red carpet at the Golden Globes, many Twitter users made cruel remarks about her appearance, but it didn’t seem to phase Gabby.
“To people making mean comments about my GG pics, I mos def cried about it on that private jet on my way to my dream job last night. #JK”
Back in 2012, she said at the Women In Entertainment Symposium, “When I was 21 or 22 I just decided that life wasn’t worth living if I wasn’t happy with myself so I just took all the steps that I could to figure out how to love myself and become confident. I have to keep going and living my life, so when things like that upset me I have to find things that build my confidence back up.”
As for her memoir, it will hit shelves in 2017.
