Ellie Goulding Talks About Her Supposed Relationship With Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran‘s break-up anthem “Don’t” has long been rumored to be about a well-known fellow popstar. But if you ask Ed’s supposed ex, Ellie Goulding, she’ll tell you just what happened between her and Sheeran and One Direction’s Niall Horan.

The “Love Me Like You Do” singer spoke with Elle U.K. for their July issue and gave them the lowdown on Sheeran and the supposed love triangle.

Goulding told Elle U.K. that she couldn’t possibly have cheated on Sheeran because she never even went out with him.

“I was never in a relationship with Ed [Sheeran]. I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.”

And it did turn into quite a big thing. While those rumors might not have been true, Goulding admitted to dating for a very short while Sheeran’s friend, Niall.

“I did go on a few dates with Niall [Horan].”

All of this comes after an interview Sheeran did with Entertainment Weekly. Accused of “letting it slip” that “Don’t” was about Goulding, Sheeran tried to set the record straight.

“I never let it slip. What happened was one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was. We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked up on it. So I never actually confirmed it.”

The rumors about a relationship between the two singers first began in 2013 when Sheeran and Goulding were seen together at that year’s MTV Music Awards. The rumors about cheating and a love triangle started just about as soon as Sheeran’s hit, “Don’t,” came out.

Goulding has been fighting rumors for years, but she’s apparently had it now. Goulding wants everyone to know she’s not a cheater and that she never even dated Ed Sheeran.

And for his part, Ed Sheeran hasn’t had anything to say about it since his interview with Entertainment Weekly. Sheeran has been busy traveling, performing, and taking shots with Beyoncé and Jay Z.

So while Ed Sheeran is busy doing his own thing, “Don’t” accuse Ellie Goulding of being his cheating ex-girlfriend.
