Caitlyn Jenner, Arthur Ashe Courage Award Controversy: Does Noah Galloway Deserve It More?
Caitlyn Jenner will be receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs in July, but is she the most deserving?
Ever since it was announced that Jenner would be honored during the show, people have been debating whether or not she was the best choice to receive the award. According to Athlon Sports, social media users have been in a heated argument about this, many feeling as though the award should go to someone like Noah Galloway or Lauren Hill.
Galloway is a U.S. Army veteran. He lost two of his limbs while fighting in the Iraq War. He was given a second chance at life, and most recently competed on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars (he danced himself to third place with the help of Sharna Burgess).
There is a rumor floating around the internet that Galloway was actually the “runner up” to Caitlyn Jenner, thanks to sports writer Gerry Callahan.

According to The Washington Post, however, this isn’t the case. Galloway didn’t “lose” to Jenner. In fact, there wasn’t information that suggested that Galloway was even in the running, but he should have been according to thousands of fans.
@GerryCallahan embarrassing such a culturally significant award/achievement has become a commercialized popularity contest — Chris Klapsa (@ChrisKlapsa11) June 1, 2015
@GerryCallahan What award will the person Jenner mowed down and killed while driving receive?

@WorldStarFunny Jenner is only relevant to sell copy’s of a magazine and take people eyes and minds off true Heros like Noah Galloway

@CauseWereGuys Noah Galloway should have won that award. Much more inspirational. — Adam Olweean (@adamolweean) June 3, 2015
Lauren Hill has also been mentioned by several people. Hill raised $1 million for cancer research while battling terminal brain cancer. She proved to be an inspiration to thousands of people and passed away on April 10.
Twitter wants the @ESPYS Arthur Ashe Courage Award to go to Lauren Hill, not @Caitlyn_Jenner. http://t.co/MuZY6vrVJ0 pic.twitter.com/lG4plfqrwU — New York Daily News (@NYDailyNews) June 2, 2015
What a joke @espn and the @ESPYS are. You know who deserves the Ashe award? Leah Still. Lauren Hill. Jim Kelly. THEY have “courage”. #ESPYs

Jenner beat out that veteran AND Lauren Hill, the college basketball player who played with a terminal brain tumor before passing in April.

Lauren Hill is who should have been the Arthur Ashe Courage Award recipient for the ESPYs. Shouldn’t even be a question… Look her up. — Brad Gober (@coachgober) June 2, 2015
For anyone other than Lauren Hill or Noah Galloway to win the ESPY Arthur Ashe Award for courage is a travesty. — Jim Dabbelt (@JDabbs86) June 2, 2015
Caitlyn Jenner is certainly deserving of such an award for bravely coming out to the world as a woman after 65 years living as a man (Bruce Jenner). As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Jenner has a lot of supporters too.
I’m glad Caitlyn won that ESPYS award thing that has all these people I know mad.

Remember that @Caitlyn_Jenner was one of the country’s most decorated Olympians ever. To receive the #ESPYs courage award is huge.
