‘Outlander’ Season 2 Casting News: Robert Cavanah And Stanley Weber Join The Cast
Now that Outlander season 2 is well underway filming, major casting news is starting to leak out from the set. Fans that have read the books know that there are quite a few major characters introduced in Dragonfly in Amber, the second book in the Outlander series, and the book on which season 2 is based.
Joining Sam Heughan (James Fraser), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Beachamp Randall Fraser) and Tobias Menzies (Black Jack Randall/Frank Randall) will be Stanley Weber and Robert Cavanah.
Access Hollywood reports that Cavanah will play Jared Fraser, a Paris-based wine merchant — and strong Jacobite — who Claire and Jamie live and work with while in Paris. Yes, Outlander season 2 will mostly take place outside of Scotland, as executive producer Ronald Moore explained earlier this week.
“Jamie and Claire will go to France,” Moore told E! News. “They’ll go to Paris in fact, and they’ll try to change history. They’ll try to stop the Jacobite rebellion, so they’ll meet Bonnie Prince Charlie, a real historical figure. They’re going to live in Paris. It’s a completely different show.”
“It’s a great setting,” Moore insists, “and what was one of the most populated cities in the world at that time. French society, it’s Aristocracy, the colors are brighter. You’re talking about fine linens and silks, you’re talking about gilt chandeliers, you know, everything that your mind conjures up when you say Versailles or Paris of that era. Suddenly our characters who lived in a Scottish world for all of season one are in that world, so it’s going to look and feel very different, which is exciting, you know. And the story is also different in that it’s much more political, it’s much more conspiracy, it’s much more lies and gossips and double dealing in Paris salons and so on, and building towards a war. It’s all setting the stage for the Jacobite invasion of Scotland, and will history repeat itself.”
Also joining the cast, E! News reports, is Stanley Weber in the pivotal role of the Le Comte St. Germain, who is one of the villains in Dragonfly.
Two other major roles that have yet to be filled are Brianna and Roger. Moore revealed in his interview with E! that those roles had yet to be cast. But fans of the books know that the integral roles will need to be cast soon.
A premiere date for Outlander season 2 has not yet been announced.
