We knew that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would make an explosive return to WWE when he his podcast came back to the WWE Network tonight, but what happened tonight will get everyone talking. Austin had Paul Heyman as his guest on the Stone Cold Podcast this past Monday night. They swapped great stories the entire show. The two have a storied history together, so it makes total sense that they would have a ton of great stuff to tell.
Heyman told stories about Rick Rude and infamous road stories that involved Sting and The Steiner Brothers. The entire show was fun and well worth seeing, but the real money is at the end of the show. There, Heyman decided to turn the tables on Austin. Paul asked Stone Cold if he could ask him questions with the remaining time left in the show. Austin of course allowed it.
First he asked a big question. “What do you think of John Cena using the springboard stunner?”
Austin responded by saying that he didn’t mind Cena using the move. He just feels it was a throw away move because WWE is allowing people to kick out of it now. He felt it would be fine if it ended matches. Sadly, he feels it diminishes the stunner when you have it as a mere set-up move and not a finishing move. Many would agree with him.
Heyman then asked what it would take to have Austin battle Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 32 . He set it up by saying that it would be in Texas, very close to Austin’s hometown. What better place for Austin to have a final, big match that would sell tickets in the thousands? “The Rattlesnake vs The Beast,” Heyman called it.
Austin then set it up by saying that if all the stars aligned, it would be something to think about. However, the only way he would want it to happen would be for it to be a Texas Death Match. He said that he could have a scientific match with Lesnar in the ring, but he feels that Lesnar is a couple bolts away from being the Frankenstein monster and a normal match wouldn’t cut it between the two of them.
He then proceeded to cut “Stone Cold” Steve Austin promo the likes we haven’t seen in years on both Lesnar and Heyman and threatened Heyman at the same time. It was an ending you’ll need to see to experience . It was truly a mark-out moment for sure. However, was this all a set-up?
Most likely yes.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has spoken to Austin, and wants ole’ Stone Cold to come back for a final match at WrestleMania 32 . The problem is that no one knew if Austin would want to do it. He has been retired for years now, and getting back into the ring after a long time off is not easy. Ask The Rock who has been hurt in each WrestleMania match he has participated in since coming back.
On top of this, Heyman has been a guest on Stone Cold’s podcast before and the two spoke about a possible match between he and Lesnar. Austin didn’t answer this question by Heyman nearly as hostile at that point when he easily could have done so.
That said, an old school Texas Death Match with Austin and Lesnar would certainly be fun to see and would be well worth investing your money into. So, it appears that WWE is planting the seeds for an Austin return, and the man he would face would be the man he left the WWE due to all those years ago. What a storyline that could happen with this one.
