Son Killed Mother: Grades Argument Leads College Student To Beat Mother To Death
A son killed his mother after an argument over his grades turned violent.
According to CNN, a 22-year-old college student from Alabama hit his 45-year-old mother with a baseball bat over the weekend, leaving her body in her backyard. Tyler Ryan Blansit actually called 911 himself, and confessed to killing his mom, Sherry Ann Blansit.
Police seemed to suggest that Tyler’s mom put up a fight, but that her son ultimately took her life.
“Investigators said they found scratches on Blansit, a student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, when they met him at the scene.”
Authorities say that they found the baseball bat at the family’s home, and that they do believe that is what was used to kill Sherry Ann. She was found with “blunt force trauma.” An autopsy should reveal her cause of death.
The son killed his mother while his dad was at work. Tyler has since been charged with murder, and is currently in jail. Details on how this all went down are sparse at this time. It’s unclear if the argument over his grades happened before Saturday, or if this murder was premeditated in any way.
According to Fox News, Tyler, a biology major, had recently returned home after his spring semester. It’s unknown how poor his grades were, or what his mom actually said to him that set him off. He is an only child.
“It’s just one of those things you can’t explain; we’ll never be able to explain what went through his mind, why he snapped and did this,” said Sheriff Jimmy Harris, who described the scene in one word: “Brutal.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, officers in the area were completely shocked to get this call, and to report to such a crime. It is not something that police in the area have ever had to deal with.
“Usually we’ll have calls where a parent has whipped a child because of grades, a child has run away because of bad grades, but we’ve never had anything like this happen,” Sheriff Harris said.
The son who killed his mother will likely be going to prison for the rest of his life. It is unknown if he has obtained an attorney, or if he plans to do so. Check out the video below for more information on this heartbreaking case. More information is expected in the coming days.
