Carla Gugino Won’t Sleep Naked: ‘San Andreas’ Star Talks Quakes And More

Carla Gugino will not sleep naked. The star of San Andreas was out promoting the film recently when she revealed the fact about herself. Gugino has a very good reason for not sleeping naked, and it is connected to her role in the film.

San Andreas is this year’s huge disaster movie with big names and even bigger special effects. Dwayne Johnson stars in the feature that shows what could happen to California and the west coast if the San Andreas fault line let loose and caused a massive earthquake in the state.

This film has not felt the love from critics in recent days. Forbes shared their own review of the film, and the review did not paint the film in a positive light.

“San Andreas, the new disaster film hitting theaters this weekend, brings plenty of visual effects in hopes audiences won’t notice that pretty much everything else that would make it worth watching is missing from the recipe.”

Another review from Hollywood Chicago called it nothing more than “disaster porn.” However, the film managed to top the box office this weekend with $53 million, according to a previous Inquisitr report.

Carla Gugino plays the love interest of Johnson’s character. They are a couple on the way to divorce with a tragic past. However, once the ground starts to shake, Ray, whom Johnson plays, jumps into save the day mode with Gugino’s character by his side. Their mission is to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their daughter while the ground continues to shake.

Gugino has lived through a major California earthquake, and she shared her experience in an interview with People Magazine. It is that experience that made it so she will never sleep naked again – at least not in the state of California or any other quake prone state.

“I was in the Northridge quake in 1994, living in the Pacific Palisades with my boyfriend at the time. I woke up from a dead sleep. And I was sleeping naked, just in my birthday suit. I got up and I could not find any clothes – and the ground was shaking, things were falling. I was just going to run out of that house, just naked as the day I was born. But I finally found my robe on the ground. I put that robe on, and I have not, to this date, slept naked in California ever again!”

Gugino is a busy woman these days. Not only is San Andreas taking over the box office, the actress is appearing in two television series. Currently, Wayward Pines is airing on Fox. Her character plays a major role on the series that co-stars Matt Dillon, Terrence Howard, and Juliette Lewis. Her character is being searched for when Dillon’s character enters the small town of Wayward Pines.

Gugino revealed in an interview with Blastr that her character is very different from any other character she has played before, but she could not reveal why because it would spoil things on the series. She signed on for the series after seeing just two scripts and reading the books that the series is based on.

Gugino’s other series, The Brink, will premiere on HBO later this month. She has spent the last two years filming all three projects, and she also did a play in New York City.

Why did Gugino take on San Andreas? In an interview with SpinOff Online, she revealed that it was the emotional connection she felt when reading the script that made her take on the role.

“I got the script, and I knew it was going to be action-packed and probably good and all those things, but what really surprised me as I was reading it was, there was a moment where this tear streamed down my face. I was really moved. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s kind of weird. I’m moved in a big, huge, tentpole, action movie script.'”

This is not the first time Carla Gugino and Dwayne Johnson worked together on the big screen. In fact, this is their third film together. Gugino starred with Johnson in Faster and Race To Witch Mountain. Gugino had nothing but praise for the actor and his work in this film. His character had to deal with some real emotions because of the couple’s past, and that is not something fans see Johnson do really.

“The thing that I love about him is he is one of the most humble confident people I know. He is completely confident in his skills, and yet absolutely humble in the process of how to get there. And to me, that’s a great artist. And that’s why Dwayne will do anything he wants to do in his life. It’s a really beautiful combination.”

Even though the critics did not love this film, moviegoers have fallen in love with San Andreas. Many shared their praise for the film on Twitter this weekend.
