Jeffrey Dean Morgan Of ‘Texas Rising’ Lost 40 Pounds By Eating A Can Of Tuna A Day
According to People magazine, Jeffrey Dean Morgan lost 40 pounds by eating a can of tuna a day for his role in the mini series, Texas Rising, on the History Channel. The actor, who is well known by fans of Grey’s Anatomy, said he lost the rapid weight because his character had consumption.
Morgan, 49, does not advise anyone else to eat a can of tuna a day to lose weight because it is unhealthy. In fact, he admits that he will never do it again. Even through he lost the weight very quickly, he says it wasn’t pretty.
When Morgan started filming the series, he was weighing 175 pounds. When the filming was over, he was weighing only 135 pounds. His character was an old gunslinger who was losing weight because of consumption. In order for Morgan to get that consumption look, he starved himself.
Morgan said he used the quickest method to lose weight, but he did not consult a physician. He had planned to lose 10 pounds, but he just kept going until he had lost a total of 40 pounds. He admits that by the end of the movie, he looked like hell.
“After eating so much tuna to lose weight for his role in Texas Rising, Morgan says that he never wants to see tuna again.”
When Morgan spoke on the fourth hour of Today with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, he indicated that the can of tuna a day was all he ate.
Texas Rising premiered on May 25. It is a five-part television miniseries based on the Texas Revolution against Mexico and how the Texas rangers were created.
It is interesting that Morgan is also starring in a two-part Lifetime miniseries, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe. He plays Joe DiMaggio, the second husband of Marilyn Monroe. That series airs on May 30 and May 31.
Needless to say, while these two series air at the same time on different networks, Morgan was not filming the two characters at the same time. Filming began in June, 2014 in Durango, Mexico for Texas Rising. It is apparent from the way Morgan looks in The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, it was before his can-of-tuna-weight-loss days.
Morgan is not the only actor who has lost weight for a part in a movie. Matthew McConaughey lost 47 pounds over a four-month period for his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club. However, his diet was more interesting. He survived on an eating plan of Diet Coke, egg whites, and a piece of chicken a day to slim down.
Actors not only lose weight for roles, but some of them also gain weight.
