‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Star Charlie Hunnam Talks Full Frontal Nudity, ‘Crimson Peak’ Star Claims ‘I Have Nothing To Hide’
There was a time when Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam had signed on for the part of Christian Grey in the erotic film, Fifty Shades of Grey. In fact, the only thing that stopped him from playing the part was timing. Hunnam was finishing up with his role as Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy, and it would have been a difficult transition as the two characters are nothing alike.
“I was going to finish playing a psychopath who’d just lost his wife [in Sons of Anarchy] and five days later I’d be on set playing Christian Grey,” Hunnam stated in an interview with Men’s Health. “I was like, ‘This is going to be a f**king disaster. It was the opposite of how I’ve tried to ground my career, not stretch myself too thin, and always do my homework.”
At the time, E! News also reported that Charlie’s dad had passed away during that time and he was struggling with saying goodbye to his Sons of Anarchy character Jax Teller after seven seasons.
“Like I said, I’ve got some family stuff I have to tend to. So when I wrap the show, I am going to go to England and see my people and then I have a film that I am doing with Guillermo [del Toro]. So I am going to go and do that and concentrate on the final seasons of Sons.“
Although many were satisfied with Jamie Dornan’s portrayal of Grey, others wish they could have seen Charlie Hunnam in the erotic role, which may have included a full frontal scene. While Dornan refused to do such a thing, Hunnam has plenty of experience going nude.
“The level of nudity that I do now, which is taking my shirt off, doesn’t bother me at all,” Hunnam stated in an interview with Elle. “But I have done full frontal before. I did full frontal when I was 18 on the TV show Queer as Folk. But because I was playing a 15-year-old character, the censorship people wouldn’t allow us to put it on TV. I think when I was young, I was a little bit more fearless with that stuff. I don’t know… I’m sure I would; I have nothing to hide.”
Though some might be sad that he dropped out of the role in Fifty Shades of Grey, he has been plenty busy with other projects. Charlie Hunnam is set to appear in the upcoming film Crimson Peak, as well as Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, and The Lost City of Z.
