Katie Couric To Host Good Morning America Next Week

Katie Couric is returning to her daytime talk show hosting roots next week but instead of appearing on her former Today Show home she’ll be filling in as the co-host for ABC’s Good Morning America.

Couric will fill in for one-week on the show when co-host Robin Roberts is off on vacation.

Katie Couric left Today in 2006 and has not hosted a morning show since that time. Her appearance on Google Morning America comes at a peculiar point when the show is unusually close to unseating Today as the No.1 morning talk show, something GMA has never managed to accomplish.

After leaving Today in 2006 Katie Couric went on to join CBS where she hosted CBS Evening News however ratings were never stellar enough to keep Ms. Couric on the payroll. Recently she signed a deal with ABC and its parent, the Walt Disney Company. Under her new agreement Couric is working on a syndicated talk show that will launch the next chapter in her career this fall.

The co-hosting duties for Katie Couric were reported by TVNewser and the official Good Morning America announcement which was expected for later in the day on Thursday was made by Roberts who told her shows fans:

Katie Couric is going to be sitting in this chair next to George Stephanopoulos. We’re thrilled to have Katie.”

Whether or not Couric can push GMA over the top in the ratings war against Today is yet to be seen. Even if Good Morning America overtakes Today for just a one week period it would be quite the accomplish against NBC’s flagship show.
