Tracy Morgan Marks First Television Appearance Since Fatal Wreck
Tracy Morgan has booked his first television appearance since his fatal crash last summer. Morgan has decided to sit down with Matt Lauer for an exclusive interview on NBC’s Today show. As stated, this will be the first television appearance since the comedian was involved in a fatal car crash.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Tracy Morgan’s segment will air on Monday, June 1. Tracy got a huge break in his case against Walmart as he reached a settlement. The 30 Rock actor suffered devastating injuries after a Walmart truck driver struck a limo that he and four others were in. The crash also resulted in the death of his mentor, James McNair. Morgan has had head trauma and a broken leg from the accident.
Morgan released a statement after he reached a settlement with Walmart, stating, “Walmart did right by me and my family and for my associates and their families … I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.”
Morgan’s lawyer, Benedict Morelli, has been very vocal about the injuries that Tracy has sustained. During the lawsuit, he has said that the comedian may never fully recover or be the Tracy Morgan he once was. Morelli appeared on the Today show earlier in the day to discuss Tracy’s condition and the settlement with Walmart.
“The process is never easy. You know that Tracy was close to death, and Tracy tells me every time I see him … that he has a new lease on life, and he’s very happy to have put the litigation behind him and have closure to this tragic part of his life.”
A month after Morgan’s car crash, he addressed photographers outside of his New Jersey home back on July 14. Wheelchair bound, he told the photographers, “I’m OK. I love you very much. Thank you. I appreciate everything.”
The public almost got a second glimpse of Tracy Morgan as the comedian wanted to make an appearance at the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary special, but wasn’t able to attend. Instead, Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin honored Morgan at the show.
Back in January, Tina Fey updated everyone on her colleague’s condition. While promoting her Netflix show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Fey said of Tracy’s condition, “Tracy has already told me that when he is well, he wants to be on the show. And I said, ‘You got it.’ He’s doing good. He’s got a long road ahead of him, but he’s going to get there.”
Morgan also has a deal for a half-hour sitcom on FXX. The network said in a statement that they’re still honoring their deal. “When Tracy has recovered and decides that he is ready to go back to work, his show will be waiting for him.”
