Mayor Sings ‘Let It Go’ After Losing A Sports Bet
Even though you’re probably tired of hearing “Let It Go” by now, especially if you have kids, get ready to listen to it one more time. The latest rendition of the hit song from Frozen comes from Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi.
What’s one way to make the NHL playoffs even more exciting? By making a bet, of course.
This is exactly what Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi did to make things more interesting for the playoff series between the Ducks and the Flames. According to the terms of the bet, not only would the loser have to wear the opposing team’s jersey, he would also have to sing in public and make a donation to the winner’s charity of choice.
Luck wasn’t on Nenshi’s side as the Calgary Flames won only one game of five in the Stanley Cup Playoffs series. As such, Nenshi had to don a Ducks jersey and sing “Let It Go” at a public event.
“I like to speak in public, I like to take risks, I like to cliff-dive. The one thing that I am absolutely terrified of is singing in public, so wish me luck over the next couple of weeks,” Nenshi said of having to sing “Let It Go” in a statement to Calgary Herald.
Just over two weeks after the Ducks played — and lost — the final game of the series, Nenshi made good on his bet with Tait.
According to CBC News, Nenshi showed up at council chambers on Monday to perform his rendition of “Let It Go.” Since the mayor is shy about singing in public, he also brought a professional a cappella quartet to help him out.

Lest you think that the Calgary mayor put a lot of planning into performing Idina Menzel’s hit song, think again. According to Nenshi, he didn’t get to practice the song before having to get started that morning.
“It may surprise you, or maybe not since we couldn’t seem to get the lyrics right, to know there was not a lot of rehearsal. In fact, when I got here this morning I was hoping to do one run through and I got to my second of three solos when I suddenly realized I had to come in and bang the gavel.”
Even though Nenshi wasn’t exactly thrilled about his team losing the playoffs and having to sing “Let It Go” in public, he wasn’t a sore loser.
“A special thanks to the Flames for such a thrilling season and getting us excited about hockey again,” Nenshi said.
