Rep. Bobby Rush Wears A Hoodie During Trayvon Martin Speech, Gets Removed From House Floor [Video]
Rep. Bobby Rush (D.-Ill.) was asked to the leave the House floor this morning while he was giving a speech about the murder of Trayvon Martin. Rush started his speech in a suit but removed his jacket and put up his hood while pleading for an end to racial profiling.
“Racial profiling has to stop, Mr. Speaker… Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum.”
Bush continued his speech, put on sunglasses, and started quoting bible verses as Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) tells Bush to stop talking. Eventually, Harper has the Sergeant at Arms remove Bush from the house floor.
Once Bush was removed, Harper read over a rule that prohibits people from wearing hats while the House is in session.
Harper said:
“The chair must remind members that Clause 5 of Rule 17 prohibits the wearing of hats in the chamber when the House is in session. The chair finds that the donning of a hood is not consistent with this rule. Members need to remove their hoods or leave the floor.
Here’s the video of Bobby Rush being removed from the House floor after putting on a hoodie.
What did you think of Rush’s speech? Do you think Harper was right to have him removed for wearing a hoodie?
