Justin Bieber, Diplo Hit Studio As ‘Where Are Ü Now’ Enters US iTunes Top 10

Justin Bieber and Diplo hit up a Los Angeles recording studio on Tuesday night. The pair’s lab date comes amid “Where Are Ü Now” entering the Top 10 of the U.S. iTunes chart at No. 10. The collaboration includes Skrillex, and is the second single from the Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü album.

Last night, Diplo posted a non-captioned pic with Bieber, which shows the pair leaning on a mixing-recording desk. Over on Twitter, the producer-DJ shared the same photo with a note revealing he has opened a Shots account. Bieber is an investor in the selfie-purpose app.

Diplo and Bieber’s studio session follows the superstar recently revealing he worked with Skrillex the day after attending the NYC Met Gala on May 4. The 21-year-old subsequently went back into the studio with Skrillex several times during the week of May 11. Jack Ü are collaborating with Bieber on his upcoming new album.

Widely reviewed as one of the best songs (so far) of 2015, “Where Are Ü Now’s” ascent on the U.S. iTunes song chart and iTunes charts in different territories was recently given a boost by Bieber’s engaging turn with The Late Late Show host James Corden during the show’s regular “Carpool Karaoke” segment.

Variety reports that the then-over 15 million YouTube views racked up by the duo’s humorous skit helped Corden trump the finale of Late Show with David Letterman in digital audience ratings. The Bieber carpool video is The Late Late Show’s most-viewed clip since the Brit comic took over hosting duties in March.

The chart buoyancy of “Where Are Ü Now” is reflected in its No. 5 slot on UK iTunes, No. 10 on the Canadian main iTunes chart, and No. 2 on the Canadian dance iTunes chart.

Over on Billboard, Bieber, Skrillex, and Diplo’s EDM slayer vaults to No. 20 on the U.S. Hot 100 after entering the Top 20 of pop radio’s airplay chart last week. The track is at No. 32 on Canada’s Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The rosy picture continues on Billboard’s dance-specific charts. The song remains at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs, No. 3 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, and is No. 3 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart.

The bittersweet stomper is currently No. 5 on the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart and No. 6 on Vodaphone’s Big Top 40 chart for the week ending May 24.

Anticipation among Bieber fans for the recently shot “Where Are Ü Now” video, an official remix from Kaskade garnering interest, news of an upcoming Marshmello remix, and the single’s continued high positioning on Spotify’s most streamed plays in the U.K., U.S., and globally, bodes well for further chart bumps when the music video debuts.

It will be interesting to see whether the visual will send the single to No. 1 on iTunes and elsewhere. Given the song’s lack of accompanying video, its chart journey to date is very impressive.
