WWE News: Reason For WWE Using Samoa Joe’s Name Due To Triple H?
The whole wrestling world is still talking about Samoa Joe’s debut in the WWE. At WWE NXT Takeover: Unstoppable, Samoa Joe came out to the ring after Kevin Owens’ match with Sami Zayn after a brutal beatdown following the bout. It was clear that Zayn was hurt, which is why the main event lasted about 10 minutes. Joe and Owens finally clashed on wrestling’s biggest stage, the WWE.
Where does the WWE go from here? WWE NXT has got a major rub from the WWE main roster in recent weeks. With Zayn and Owens making big impacts on WWE RAW, the WWE NXT group is getting mainstream popularity. It’s all starting with Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens.
Amidst all of the popularity surrounding the debut itself, there’s something interesting about Joe. It’s his name. Samoa Joe has been his name since his Ring of Honor days. Usually, the WWE changes the name of big Indie superstars. For example, Finn Balor used to be called Fergal Devitt in the Indie scene. Kevin Owens used to be Kevin Steen.
The list goes on and on, but the WWE always has a purpose. They want their own names to become mainstream, but not the Indie stars’ name. Samoa Joe seems to be different. Why didn’t they change his name? According to Daily Wrestling News, Triple H is behind Samoa Joe keeping his name.
“Apparently there was discussion about Joe’s name as recent as a month ago, possibly a few weeks, and there was talk of still incorporating ‘Joe’ in the new name some how. They obviously changed their minds, let him use Samoa Joe and there are now rumors that he could even use that name on the main roster.”
Instead of changing his name, the WWE is dubbing Joe as the “Submission Specialist,” instead of the “Samoan Submission Machine.” It’s a subtle change, but still one to trademark. If they plan to use Samoa Joe on the WWE main roster, which they will eventually, he’ll need his own identity.
Joe has the tools to become a major player in the WWE. If the WWE Creative team is willing to work with him, Triple H signed yet another top star to the company. As far as Joe’s length of time in WWE NXT, that’s to be determined. Joe and Owens should have a long feud coming, until one of them gets called up to the WWE’s main roster. One thing that is confirmed is that he will remain Samoa Joe.
