WWE News: WWE Interested In Bringing Samoa Joe To The Main Roster, Waiting On His WWE NXT Performance First
Former TNA star Samoa Joe made his shocking debut at WWE NXT Takeover: Unstoppable last week. It was a night to remember all the way until the end of the night when Samoa Joe came out to defend Sami Zayn against a monster in Kevin Owens. It was a great moment, and just happened to be one of the many reasons one should never miss an episode of WWE NXT.
Many wondered when Samoa Joe would get a call up by WWE. He’s older, so he has less time than most to see main roster time. According to Cageside Seats, WWE is simply waiting to see how he performs in WWE NXT before considering the idea of calling him up. Right now, Samoa Joe has quite the unique contract.
His contract allows him to work WWE NXT (priority) while also allowing him to work Independent dates. This is why he is set for shows with NEW and ROH soon. His deal is basically the same as Rhyno’s, but for far more money. Triple H is a big fan of Joe’s, and wants him to be with WWE. The problem is that they have to keep him in NXT for a while if nothing more than just waiting to have something for him on the main roster.
He doesn’t need development, so signing him to such a deal doesn’t make sense. Therefore having him work with NXT and do Indy dates outside of that is better than having him work in a WWE deal that doesn’t make sense for him. The idea is that if he does well in his NXT run, WWE will most likely sign him to an exclusive deal that will include a main roster run.
WWE has big plans for Samoa Joe, but what all that entails is unknown. There is a thought that he might be the one who beats Kevin Owens for his WWE NXT Championship, which would allow Owens to head to the main roster. WWE has big plans for Kevin Owens as well, however he needs to be on the main roster to go through with those plans.
Samoa Joe is someone fans love, but WWE needs to know what they have before signing him to a big, long-term deal. It doesn’t make sense to sign a guy at his age to a deal that will only include NXT. So whenever WWE end up signing Joe to something exclusive, his main roster debut won’t be far behind it. Triple H being a fan of his helps him a lot, which is a big deal in today’ WWE. An an example of this was when it came to Joe’s WWE name. It was a last minute call to keep his name, but Triple H is the one that made that call for it to happen. If Joe does see the main roster, his “Samoa Joe” name is likely to come with him now that he is already using it in NXT.
