Why Katy Perry Won’t Mention Ex-Husband Russell Brand In Future Interviews

It’s been three years since Katy Perry and Russell Brand divorced, but that doesn’t mean she’s going open up about her ex-husband. In fact, she hasn’t even spoken to the British actor and comedian.

Perry, 30, who’s reportedly dating musician John Mayer, told the Daily Telegraph that she and the 39-year-old British entertainer are not speaking.

“He hasn’t spoken to me since he texted me saying he was filing for divorce.”

Brand also spoke out about his ex-wife on Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday morning. He was asked if he has someone to look out for him so he stays sober and celibate on tour. He slammed the singer by saying that having a sober companion is like having “a wife. Ruins everything.” Ouch.

This is also the first time that Perry has spoken about Brand in an interview. She previously told Vogue that her ex-husband asked for a divorce via text message on Dec. 31, 2011. That heartbreaking moment was also documented in the Katy Perry: Part Of Me movie.

So, how did she get over her heartbreak? Katy likes to take her emotions to the extremes, literally. Instead of hiding from her fears, she faces them head on.

“I’m one of those people that likes to be fearless. We bungee-jumped in New Zealand on one tour. We go to water-parks and do things like that because I have a little fearless invincibility streak in me. I don’t like to live in fear because that traps you and your voices. Fear is a control tactic in the world that is negative and depressing and I don’t want to be associated with it.”

Don’t expect Katy Perry to speak openly about her ex-husband now. She’s going to let her music do the talking.

“I don’t want to talk about him — my songs will say what I need to say.”

This comes after the news that Perry is working on her new album. As previously reported via the Inquisitr, the “Dark Horse” singer is hoping to release a new album by 2016. Perry also has plans to drop a new single by the end of the year. She wants to take her music in a completely different direction. Perry has previously expressed that she wants to release an acoustic album. That could mean more Russell Brand references in her songs.

She’s not holding any grudges though. Katy remained coy about her relationship status in the interview. She is still hopeful that she will fall in love again someday. In fact, Katy doesn’t seem to be worried about falling in love again anytime soon. She’s very open to the idea.

“No, absolutely not. I’m excited by whatever it brings. I’m excited by my own evolution, I don’t want to end up bittersweet.”

“I have to evolve, I have to continue to push people’s perceptions of me. As an artist I like to do that, keep people on the edge of their seats.”

Does Perry think having it all is possible?

“I think it can be for a modern woman. I always thought you could have a relationship and success. For a modern woman it’s important to be supported and that there is equality in every aspect. And it’s not two halves that make a whole. It’s two wholes that make a whole.”

So, does that mean that she wants to be a mom someday?

“I’m still growing up, I’m still learning about myself. When I become a mother I just want to become a mother and be dedicated to that.”

Katy Perry and Russell Brand dated shortly after meeting at the 2009 MTV Video Awards. That same year, the couple was engaged on New Year’s Eve in India. Katy and Russell then had a Hindu wedding in October 2010. Their divorced was finalized on July 2012.
