Amy Winehouse ‘Destroyed’ By Blake Fielder Civil, Says Brother [Video]
Harry Civil, brother to the ex-husband of Amy Winehouse, Blake Fielder Civil, has recently come forward and noted how his brother’s role in Winehouse’s death has kept him from speaking to Blake for years.
Harry shared how tragic it was to see the destruction that was brought on after his brother introduced the young singer to hard drugs which were to blame for her untimely death at the young age of 27. Bang notes Harry’s perception of the tumultuous relationship between Amy and Blake.
“They seemed hell-bent on destroying each other and didn’t care about dragging others down with them. It was like watching two speeding trains hurtle towards each other before a violent crash.”
A new documentary, which details Winehouse’s life and the later years as she neared the day she overdosed, shares the darkness that surrounded the duo. Harry was well aware of the destruction the hard drugs brought to Amy and admitted he felt guilty because of his own brother’s role.
“I felt guilty because everyone knows it was Blake who introduced Amy to hard drugs. I didn’t speak to him for about two years because I blamed him for so many things. I didn’t hate him. I just wanted Amy to be still alive. We got back in touch only a couple of weeks ago. It destroyed our family.”
Amy’s death not only took an emotional toll on Harry and Blake as well as their family, it also caused them to be shunned and blamed by the public. Harry Civil admits to he and his brother being spit on while walking down the street and heckled by those who associated them with the death of Winehouse. The parents of Harry and Blake even split up due to the horrible repercussions brought on their family after the death of the “Rehab” songstress.
Harry explained in detail to the Daily Mail.
“People spat at us and called us junkies. Blake was demonised and local people behaved as if we had a contagious disease they didn’t want to catch. Mum and Dad split up under the strain. We had always been very close, but now we rarely see our dad.”
Harry, now 22, is speaking out for the first time about the ordeal that caused his family such turmoil. With the biopic set to release in a couple of weeks, Blake’s younger brother is sharing his own connection to Winehouse’s death and noting the guilt he feels at his brother’s actions. Blake was not only known to tempt and lure Amy with dangerous substances, Harry also reveals that he tempted their 14-year-old brother Freddy with cocaine.
As the Daily Mail notes, Harry is far removed from Blake in both appearance and behavior; the lasting effects of the role Blake played in Winehouse’s death are all that the two have in common, it seems.
