‘Orange Is The New Black’: Everything We Know About Season 3 Before The June Premiere
The hit Netflix prison drama Orange is the New Black is currently getting ready for the release of its third season. With that release just around the corner, there are plenty of reasons to get excited for the new season as the show picks up after an eventful Season 2.
Season 2 ended with Vee escaping Litchfield only to get ran over and presumably killed by Rosa. Vee’s departure was welcomed by most of the inmates — except Crazy Eyes — who were glad to see her tyrannical run end. At the same time, Piper is still dealing with Larry’s new relationship with her best friend, Polly, while Alex is preparing to return to prison.
With the prison itself undergoing major administration changes, from Caputo’s rise to the top to Pornstache’s arrest, what does Season 3 have in store?
First, it has been reported by Cinema Blend that there will be a number of new characters this season. These new faces include Mike Birbiglia in a role still unknown, Mary Steenburgen as Pornstache’s mother, Marsha Stephanie Blake as a new corrections officer, Australian model Ruby Rose, and Stella Carlin.
In a similar vein, there are a few cast members that will not be returning this time around. Jason Biggs, who has played Larry since Season 1, won’t be reprising his role this season. Additionally, Pornstache will not appear in Season 3 of Orange is the New Black, though his mother will be present.
Along with the slew of new characters, a few of the recurring cast members were upgraded to regulars for the new season. This means that we are likely to get a more in-depth look into the lives of Gloria Mendoza, Black Cindy, Daya, Caputo, Morello, and Poussey.
Besides the news related to casting, little is known concerning the plot of the upcoming season. Jenji Kohan has been very secretive about leaking plot details, but she did reveal that the new season would focus on faith.
In a recent interview with MTV News, Uzo Aduba revealed some details about her character, Crazy Eyes, and how she deals with her own faith.
“I think what we can expect from Suzanne is that she has a lot of stories to tell. We learn that she has more stories inside her. There are a lot more stories to tell than what we’ve seen in Season 1 and 2. And then Jenji is really playing faith, you know, and that’s exciting. That word can sort of cover anything and everything, and Suzanne’s been a bit of an idol worshiper in the past. And so it’s been really cool to see where she puts her faith now.”
Watch all the drama unfold when Orange is the New Black premieres on Netflix June 12.
