Tim Duncan Given Night Off, Reason Written on Spurs Roster…Old
San Antonio, Tx. – The San Antonio Spurs ended a frantic three games in three night run with a win over the Philadelphia Sixers. The Spurs only gave up 11 points in the entire 4th quarter.
There was a face in the crowd that looked a little familiar to fans. San Antonio Star Tim Duncan was given the night off and not because he had an injury or suspension. If you look at the official box score at NBA.com you will see the reason the all-star was sat.
Apparently, the official reason for Duncan sitting was his age. After he has been with the Spurs for 15 season Tim Duncan was listed as DND-OLD. DND stand for Did Not Dress, you do not need a dictionary to know what old means.
Duncan still managed to pull of a technical foul even from the bench.
Referee Josh Tiven handed Duncan a technical foul in the first half for unwelcome comments after Manu Ginobili fell hard on a drive to the basket but didn’t receive a call. What makes it worse is this is not even the first time that Tim Duncan has been given a technical foul from the bench. During a game against Dallas back in 2007, referee Joey Crawford ejected Duncan for laughing from the bench. Crawford was suspended for the altercation.
Ginobili, who was asked about Duncan’s technical foul after the game, and he said,
“I appreciated it. I think Pop didn’t. But it’s good when you see your franchise player, even when he’s not playing, stick with his team and support and cheer for them. He’s a great leader, and we respect that.”
