Watch Vanessa Hudgens Try To Avoid Saying She Helped Selena Gomez ‘Avoid’ Justin Bieber At Met Gala
Vanessa Hudgens has allegedly cleared up the lingering question: How did Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez cope with all that “The Heart Wants What It Wants” drama when they both attended the recent Met Gala in New York City on May 4?
The star-studded fashion event was the first time the former sweethearts were seen at the same public event since their evidently bad split last September. And Hudgens, who is one of Gomez’s BFF’s, was there too.
Some gossip reports previously claimed Gomez “broke down crying” after seeing her ex. However, Hudgens’ recollection of the high fashion event was far less melodramatic. The Gigi actress revealed her version of what went on between Justin and Selena at the Gala, when she was put on the spot by a random caller during Thursday’s edition of Watch What Happens Live.
Hudgens was asked, “Is it true that you helped Selena Gomez avoid Justin Bieber at the Met Ball?”
Looking more than a little uncomfortable with the subject matter, Hudgens replied, “Getting spicy now, aren’t we?”
Pressing for an answer, host Andy Cohen asked, “Is that true?”
“I mean, not really,” Hudgens replied, while fellow guest Kellan Lutz teased her, asking, “Is it true? Is it true?”
“She’s [Gomez] one of my best friends and you just want to have your girlfriend’s back, so that’s what I did,” Hudgens explained.
She elaborated, “We didn’t, like, try to avoid him or anything. I mean, no one really wants to see your ex-boyfriend.”
Did Selena draft in Hudgens as a wingwoman at the Met Gala because she was afraid that she’d give in to Bieber’s charms? After all, Gomez was basically stalking her ex-boyfriend on social media in the months leading up to the Met ball, so she is still clearly caught up in what he is doing.
Bieber made headlines at the Met Gala after wearing a gold dragon-embellished Balmain jacket, which was designed by the label’s creative director Oliver Rousteing. Bieber also hit headlines after the Met Gala following his and Selena’s attendance at Rihanna’s after-party at Up & Down.
E! News previously reported a source said the exes “exchanged some words” at the after party, but mainly hung with their own pals.
Meanwhile, Us Weekly reported a source said, “Selena looked really happy” at Rihanna’s bash. “She seemed to know everyone there and talked to several other celebs.”
As he left the party, Bieber was captured on TMZ-obtained video telling a scrum of waiting photographers and fans that, “Selena looked gorgeous at the Met Ball!”
However, it seems there’s still some ice between the former Jelena. Or, is there too much fire?
Either way, we fully expect the rumor mill to overexcite itself imagining scenarios as to why Gomez wanted to avoid Bieber.
Isn’t that how it works?
