Girls’ Generation Is The First K-Pop Act Confirmed For KCON: New York
In about three months, New York/New Jersey will suddenly have an influx of fans from Eastern America who have a cultural preference in Korean culture (both traditional and modern)! On August 8, 2015, the second KCON event will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. As of now, very little is revealed about the second event because the organizers are busy setting up the first event, held in Los Angeles, California.
However, there is news that the first K-pop act has officially been signed on for the second KCON. Also, this is not just any K-pop act, but one of the most prominent acts in the world: Girls’ Generation.
According to Billboard, So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD) — better known by their international name Girls’ Generation — will bring the heat to the East Coast when they appear at KCON. As of now, Girls’ Generation is the first K-pop group to be revealed, but will surely be joined by others.
As mentioned earlier, Girls’ Generation is one of the most popular K-pop acts with a very high international profile. Their EP titled “Mr. Mr.” hit no. 110 on the Billboard 200. Not only that, Girls’ Generation owns a YouTube Music Award and has the honor of earning the title of “most viewed K-pop video in America and around the world on YouTube” with their music video “Catch Me If You Can.”
Girls’ Generation also expands beyond their bread and butter as K-pop acts, as reported by KDramaStars. Though it might be because of their popularity, every single member of the group appeared in K-dramas, an international television genre growing in popularity worldwide, especially in the United States. Girls’ Generation members Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seolhyun had more prominent roles. Yuri was in No Breathing, Sooyoung was in Dating Agency Cyrano and My Spring Days, Seolhyun was in Passionate Love, and Yoona was in several K-dramas including Love Rain.
Historically for the K-pop act, Girls’ Generation’s upcoming appearance will be the second one they do for a KCON event, the first being back in 2014. Also, this will be Girls’ Generation’s latest performance in the New York/New Jersey area since 2011.
