Charlize Theron Cast in ‘Fifty Shades Darker’? ‘Mad Max’ Star Reportedly Set To Play Elena Lincoln In ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Sequel
The rumors are already flying concerning Fifty Shades Darker, and Charlize Theron is right in the thick of things. Although the sequel to the highly successful and controversial film, Fifty Shades of Grey, is still a few years from being released, fans are eager to find out which of their favorite stars will make an appearance in the movie.
According to the Venture Capital Post, Theron is being considered for the part of Elena Lincoln in Fifty Shades Darker. Lincoln, who also goes by Mrs. Robinson, is Christian Grey’s past dominant partner. She also just so happens to be Grey’s business partner and will likely come between Grey and his relationship with Anastasia Steele.
The erotic film franchise is based on the books by E.L. James. With the first film grossing some $569 million worldwide, Universal immediately started preparing for a sequel. The planned sequel comes with the burden of there having been some major disagreements between the studio, director Sam Taylor-Johnson, and James during the filming of the first movie.
Along with the possibility of Academy Award winning Charlize Theron joining the cast, both Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have already agreed to reprise their roles as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Furthermore, according to Venture Capital Post, Cara Delevingne is rumored to be set to play Leila Williams, another of Grey’s submissive partners.
Meanwhile, the character of Jack Hyde has yet to be filled. There is some speculation that either Jai Courtney or Henry Cavill might be up for the role. Hyde is Ana’s boss at the publishing company she works for, which is also owned by Grey. In the books, Hyde has plans for Ana, and his character might very well be the main antagonist in the coming film.
Despite all the names being thrown around, Universal has yet to announce anything official other than Dornan and Johnson are returning. Although the studio has been eager to get production started, the entire process has been delayed due to the fact that Taylor-Johnson and a few other members of the first film’s production team have decided not be a part of Fifty Shades Darker.
Taylor-Johnson’s decision follows what was a difficult partnership between her and James. According to multiple reports, the director had a number of disagreements with James on set, and the two differed on how they wanted to approach certain subjects in the erotic adaptation.
Despite the delays in production, Fifty Shades Darker is looking to duplicate the monetary success of the first film. If the rumors, which were also reported by Movie News Guide, that Charlize Theron will be joining the cast are true, the movie is well on its way to success.
