Melissa McCarthy Debuts Weight Loss: Actress Drops 50 Pounds, Shows Off New Frame At Hollywood Event
Melissa McCarthy is showing off her big weight loss, turning heads at a Hollywood Walk of Fame event as she debuted her new figure after losing 50 pounds.
Wearing a purple, kimono-inspired outfit, McCarthy turned heads at the unveiling. She posed for pictures along side her husband and frequent co-star, Ben Falcone, as the star was unveiled.
Melissa McCarthy has been working hard at her weight loss goals. Earlier this year, she showed off a 45-pound weight loss, which she credited to a high-protein and low-carb diet.
McCarthy has been known for being cast in the “funny fat girl” roles, but said she doesn’t mind as long as she can get a laugh out of audiences.
“I’ll do almost anything for a laugh,” McCarthy told People magazine last year. “I’m completely delighted by people who think, ‘I don’t care what anybody else thinks, I look great in this, and I rock it and I love it.’ It’s such a delightful sort of confidence.”
The actress added that she has never felt pressure to change who she is, even in light of weight critics.
“I’ve never felt like I needed to change,” she says. “I’ve always thought, ‘If you want somebody different, pick somebody else.’ But sure, criticism can sometimes still get to me. Some things are so malicious, they knock the wind out of you.”
The strategy has helped McCarthy to become one of the most popular and in-demand comedians in Hollywood. After her breakout role in Bridesmaids in 2011, she has scored a number of leading roles, including in the television series Mike & Molly.
But McCarthy also admitted that she used to get very stressed over her weight.
“In my 20s I used to cry about why I wasn’t thinner or prettier, but I want to add that I also used to cry about things like: ‘I wish my hair would grow faster. I wish I had different shoes…,’ ” she told People. “I was an idiot… It’s a decade of tears.”
Those who want to see Melissa McCarthy’s weight loss will get a chance to check it out on the big screen. McCarthy is currently filming the new film, Michelle Darnell, and will soon start production on the Ghostbusters reboot.
