Walt Disney World has its fair share of strange stories, and one of the weirdest happened on Monday night. A man ended up having a bit too much to drink while at a restaurant at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, and it led to him crashing through the window of a golf cart and going for a swim in Bay Lake before being arrested.
According to the Orlando Sentinel , 27-year-old Andrew Hall of Mentor, Ohio, was arrested, but first he had to be rescued.
A Walt Disney World maritime unit headed out into Bay Lake, where Hall was swimming and had a lot of trouble trying to stay afloat. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office made it known that Disney prohibits swimming in that water.
Earlier in the night, Hall had been at the Trail’s End Restaurant at Fort Wilderness and had been drinking. It was then that he attempted to leave the location on a bicycle, and a restaurant manager noticed he was having trouble staying balanced.
After witnessing Hall fall a number of times while on the bicycle, the manager hopped into a Walt Disney World golf cart and caught up with him to assist the guest.
Upon catching up with Hall, the manager hopped out of the golf cart and went to help. That was when Hall ran toward the golf cart, jumped, and crashed right through the plastic windshield of the vehicle.
Hall then sat down in the driver’s seat of the golf cart and drove straight toward Bay Lake before crashing into a pier. At that point, Hall jumped into Bay Lake and started swimming away from shore, but it was soon noticed that he was struggling to stay up.
“He then ‘dove below the surface beyond sight,’ the report states. When he came back up, Hall was going in and out of consciousness, gasping for breath, according to the report.”
The marine unit caught up with Hall who began screaming racial slurs at them and absolutely refusing to get into the safety boat. A marine unit officer jumped into the water, rescued Hall, and pulled him into the vessel.
The Disney World guest was brought to shore and treated by emergency crews and then brought to a nearby hospital. Hall was treated and released, but then quickly booked into the Orange County Jail.
Hall was charged with grand theft, criminal mischief, and disturbing the peace at a public lodging establishment. He is currently being held on $2,500 bail, while officers said that the damage to the pier and golf cart total around $5,000.
Going to Walt Disney World is meant to be a fun experience with a lot of enjoyment, but drinking can sometimes cause things to get out of hand. Such was the case with the guest who ended up arrested for wrecking a golf cart and swimming in Bay Lake.
