‘The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron’ — Just How Much Will This Juggernaut Earn?
The latest Marvel movie, The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, recently hit a gross tally of $1 billion — $1.142 billion, to be exact. It is quite the success, considering some film critics were starting to question whether the Joss Whedon train was beginning to tarnish. However, just how far can the Avengers: Age of Ultron juggernaut really go? Considering it just made another $156.3 million in China after it debuted there on the weekend, you would might ask if the sky is really the limit for this superhero franchise. This makes The Avengers: Age of Ultron the eighth highest grossing movie of all time, according to Flickering Myth. To put it all into perspective, the gargantuan children’s movie, Frozen, has beat it only marginally in comparison, with $1.274 billion. However, it still has another $376 million to make before it betters the original Avengers movie.
Let’s take a look at some of the other big movie releases to see just how spectacular The Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s recent success at the box office really is.
- Fast and Furious 7. This movie has also reached the ranks of the $1 billion club, managing also to stay in the No. 1 spot two weeks in a row when it debuted in theaters. It has reached a peak of over $1.4 billion, according to Box Office Mojo.
- Mad Max: Fury Road. Many film critics have given rave reviews about George Miller’s latest in the Max Max franchise. Some even claim it is the best movie of 2015. During its opening weekend, it grossed $109.4 million. This makes it the No. 1 debut movie for 2015 so far, but it still has a long way to go if it wants to reach the glory of The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
- Pitch Perfect 2. This movie has been a bit of a hit and miss as far as viewers go. While many fans of the original tuned in, many film critics have been very critical of the movie. It has still managed to make around $107.5 million at the box office — and doing better than the original, domestically. And, of course, still miles behind The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The Washington Post is now predicting The Avengers: Age of Ultron has earned a success that even the upcoming Star Wars movie will not be able to top.
