All-Diamond Ring Expected To Sell For $70 Million [Video]
This ring is made of bling. Switzerland’s Shawish Jewelry has created the world’s first all-diamond ring and they are expecting it to sell for a world record amount.
Styleite reports that the new ring gets rid of that old pesky gold band. Instead, Shawish Jewelry carved the ring from a single diamond. The 150-carat diamond ring is expected to sell for close to $70 million, which completely crushes its expensive ring competitors.
According to Born Rich, Elizabeth Taylor’s 30-carat diamond ring sold for $1.3 million. The world’s most expensive ring, a “pink diamond ring that is studded with five carats of diamond,” sold for $10.8 million.
Mohamed Shawesh, president and ceo of Geneva-based Shawish Jewelry, said that creating the ring was no easy task. Shawesh told Guest of a Guest:
“We had to do multiple tests with the design, to get the precision of the circle right. Diamonds are made of carbon and molecules that can change, even the colour can be altered when attempting to cut it. We had to buy special laser equipment, to cut directly into the diamond. The most important aspect is preserving the integrity of the diamond and of course the most difficult phase is precision cutting an entire stone into a ring.”
It took Shawish jewelry more than a year to carve the all-diamond ring and they are hoping that they’ll become the exclusive seller of all-diamond rings. The design, according to Styleite, has already been copyrighted.
“A ring made entirely of a faceted diamond has always seemed like a fantasy, It seemed impossible, so we decided to embark on the adventure of creating it. To create the perfect diamond ring is the epitome of art.”
